Character: Brendon is seventeen with stringy brown hair and a thin nose. He’s the nemesis of Aarya Dalton and Peter Faith, bent on destroying the reputation of Otman’s mayor. He’s forgetful for a villain, but calculating enough to get the job done.

Brendon was pacing when I entered. He didn’t notice me. He could barely take his eyes off of his machine.

I stepped into the light. “Excuse me, I was told there was a clearance sale happening today. Is that true?”

Brendon whirled around to face me. He laughed, genuinely not maniacally, as he realized who was in the room.

“We meet again,” he chuckled. “I’m glad you’re here!”

“You are?” I asked, confused at his good attitude.

“Yep!” His eyes glittered with enthusiasm. “It’s more fun to share one’s achievements with a crowd. I bet you’re wondering what this machine is.”

“The Ocucalor 2003,” I interrupted.

He looked confused. “How did you know that?”

I blinked. “It’s written on the side.”

Brendon glanced at his machine as if he had forgotten the name was actually written there.

“Right,” he continued. “It’s a machine that-”

“Amplifies the lasers you make with your powers,” I finished.

He frowned at me. “Yeah. Do you know why I built it or should I just not bother?”
